come to think of it... since 10.3.7 my photoshop CS sometimes hangs on the opening screen while 'initializing' - Apple ALWAYS do this, release a really buggy update just before a major update - 10.4Tiger will be for sale very soon.

Definatly after i did the 10.3.7 and updated iTunes and QuickTime. Before it was smooth .

interesting murmur,
ok, it doesnt seem to be doing it as much
but it just did it once, soo its not entirely fixed
..fuck it, whats the story apple!?

I'm not on a G5 but i have the same problem lately except it affects Quictime as well. Just opeing quictime takes 2 minutes to load the default quictime content.
- blackspade0
so far, the update to .1 seems to have fixed it!
que pre-mature "yipeeeee"

to start with, try:
1) Upgrading to iTunes 4.7.1, released on Jan 11th 05 - the minor update is said to include several "performance improvements";
2) unchecking 'sound enhancer' and 'sound check' under iTunes>Preferences>Audio

I had the exact same thing last week. Re-installed a couple of times but that didn't help. Gave up and went back to win amp. decided yesterday I couldn't live without itunes and gave it another go and it worked. Glitch in the Matrix?

hey blackspade... what does update_prebinding do?
- blackspade0
nope, still the same
did the above
*pulls freakin HAIR OUTTTTTT!!**
- blackspade0
its more of a Pause / start
not glitchy sounding, like the system is struggling (but its not !)
trying the above suggestion at the mo
*cross'es fingers*

sorry - didn't read above *slaps own wrist* You could try turning the sound enhancer preference up to max and turn off the sound check option - sometimes that stalls my itunes - especially on long mixes...
is it a 'glitchy' sounding skip or is it just stop-starty? how long is the skip?
- blackspade0
ok cheers ill give it a shot

- blackspade0
no if u read above
my mp3s/aac's etc are all fine
its totally random, It cant be the files as ive had some of them for years working perfectly until I updated to 10.3.7/itunes 4.7
thanks for the thoughts

Your mp3 could be corrupt in its encoding causing a couple of sectors to skip... has happened to me before - sometimes you have to rip CDs at a slower rate for this not to happen...
- blackspade0
yea iTunes only
no problems with this type of stall/skip in any other app
damed annoying
- elahon0
Is the problem only in iTunes? Have you tried opening a file or two in QuickTime player?
- blackspade0
cocktail hasnt helped it :(
any ideas all !?
