k so I have latest version of iTunes, & osx 10.3.7, Dual G5
my prob is, itunes has started skipping songs, (no matter which format, all my audio files are fine)
the kind of sound youd expect if the system was being pushed to its limits, ..except I have a dual processor G5 and it still does it even if I have nothing else open!
I have tried watching the activity monitor, but it doesnt seem strained at all while this skipping is going on
PUZZLED & FRUSTRATED!!!
anyone else experienced anything of the sort?
HELP ! =)

this is crazy tho, my old 450mhz tower never skipped a song
now I have a dual g5 and itunes runs like s sack of shit
maybe i do need to re-install, seems strange tho ive only recently set up the G5

Is the problem only in iTunes? Have you tried opening a file or two in QuickTime player?
- blackspade0
yea iTunes only
no problems with this type of stall/skip in any other app
damed annoying

Your mp3 could be corrupt in its encoding causing a couple of sectors to skip... has happened to me before - sometimes you have to rip CDs at a slower rate for this not to happen...
- blackspade0
no if u read above
my mp3s/aac's etc are all fine
its totally random, It cant be the files as ive had some of them for years working perfectly until I updated to 10.3.7/itunes 4.7
thanks for the thoughts

sorry - didn't read above *slaps own wrist* You could try turning the sound enhancer preference up to max and turn off the sound check option - sometimes that stalls my itunes - especially on long mixes...
is it a 'glitchy' sounding skip or is it just stop-starty? how long is the skip?
- blackspade0
its more of a Pause / start
not glitchy sounding, like the system is struggling (but its not !)
trying the above suggestion at the mo
*cross'es fingers*
- blackspade0
nope, still the same
did the above
*pulls freakin HAIR OUTTTTTT!!**
- ctrlRmB0
hey blackspade... what does update_prebinding do?

I had the exact same thing last week. Re-installed a couple of times but that didn't help. Gave up and went back to win amp. decided yesterday I couldn't live without itunes and gave it another go and it worked. Glitch in the Matrix?

to start with, try:
1) Upgrading to iTunes 4.7.1, released on Jan 11th 05 - the minor update is said to include several "performance improvements";
2) unchecking 'sound enhancer' and 'sound check' under iTunes>Preferences>Audio
- blackspade0
thanks fyvp will try those :)
