I'm a NYC chauvinist, but I don't hate on Cali. It just seems like all the best aspects of the west coast (specifically southern California) can only be appreciated in small doses. For instance, I can't appreciate beautiful warm weather unless there is shitty weather to compare it to. In So Cal, the weather is the same year round (give or take 10-15 degrees).
I like having all the extremes. Plus good food.

The Bay Area, on the other hand, is very nice! I've only been there once, but seems down to earth.

You like extremes eh? Come to Vegas...it was snowing last week...in 5 months it will be so hot the soles of your shoes will melt walking out to get the mail.

interesting post...
I've been to California quite a few times...the north is gorgeous, upwards by the big sur area. san diego is nice too, stayed there for about a week...drove through the entire state, for that mattter. I think my biggest problem with California are the people, especailly and specifically the LA area. Couldn't really get into them all that much, everything seems over the top and cheezy...which I guess make sense Hollywood is teh palce where they make movies...NYC on the other hand is fucking brutal, but in a great way...noone gives a shit about you for the most part, which only cuts to the chase regarding any kind of art...
I'don't know...NYC in my opinion is like what LA (not the rest of california - mind you) wants to be, but just somehow can't get the style right...
good topic...

I prefer nyc over cali because nyc is more urban and you dont need a car.

I'm in Orange County... very low crime rate (3 of the cities are in the top 10 for lowest crime rate in the country), the lowest unemployment rate of any major county in the world, great quality of life, good money to be made, nice beaches, room to breathe, and yeah.. quite a few hot chicks, if you're into that sorta thing...
it rocks.

so I've lived in Cali for about 2 years and have visited NYC 4 times. I love NYC because it's everything that the West Coast isn't. I live in Vegas so a lot of the lifestyle here is indicative of Cali due to so many people that have migrated and visited here from Cali. There are beautifu beaches and wilderness areas in Cali, LA has shitty people, ppl in SD are way nice and SF has the weirdest vibe but it's cool. In NYC there are ridiculously tall buildings, subways, tons of museums and a totally different cultural mix than what I am used to. I would have loved to have lived in NYC for a while before I missed the opportunity to do so, but it's not practical for me at this point in my life. Anyway, if somebody said "you wanna go to NYC for a week or Cali for a week" I'd choose NYC. So many things left to do there still.

Speaking of Beaches, NYC has Coney Island, the Rockaways. Sure, you won't get great surf or anything that resembles clear water. But Cali can't possibly compete with NYC beach backhair.
- taragee0
hahaha
there r nice beaches on LI and in s jerz
- dippy0
yeah tara, but even there, you can't escape the backhair. lol
- adamfinger0
Yes, but backhair is all over New Jersey and Long Island.

beat you to it!
