How many of you get this day off of work? I really have an issue with the consumerist holiday that is Christmas (it has nothing to do with Jesus, look it up in an encyclopedia). However the man that actually lived and breathed and has existing film footage is given just quick mentions? Especially for civil rights! This could go on forever, but to echo mrdobolina's comments in his FMT post. Remember MLK on Monday.

I'm not really concerned with getting the day off of work. I mean, the man worked his whole life and I get a day off? Doesn't make sense.
You're right though dobs, there's plenty of black men and women that created American History and they're being ignored. Of course, I don't expect much from the government. So I'll just keep their struggle foremost in mind and remember that there are better things to come.

one by-product that their struggle did make was some incredible music.
I love it all and to hear some of the tripe that comes out today bringing it back to amos and andy makes me sick.

Long live McFadden & Whitehead, right Dobs?
The music has definitely been a huge influence in my life.
I grew up listening to a lot of my dad's old 45's. Great great stuff.

I have NEVER gotten that day off in my life.
On the Sunday before the first MLK day, PBS played a ton of his speeches. They were some of the most inspiring and insightful observations of humanity I have ever heard. He was a genius.

I've read differently, nothing against his cause, but as a person, there are allegations of drunkness, womanizing, etc. Not that there's anything wrong with that, lol, but you know come on, he was trying to sell the Protestant Evangelical Southern Baptist preacher thing. Depends on how you see it.
