Trying to make a 3d dice in swift.
Very simple, its just a cube.. But I want to also somehow create the inner beveled dots.. sort of etched out of the dice.. Anyone know how I can do this in swift?

r u using version 3 or 4?

version 4

i would make a cube, but make sure theres plenty of geometry - (i'd say at least 9x9x9)
I abso. love swift, but the 3 point polygon limit really kills me; then make a cylinder template at the correct diameter and depth you want (you'll use this for all the dots) The key step is to delete the surrounding polys on the cube that would be were the dots will be, then position the dots/ cylinder exactly where you need them, and then finally, weld the cube polys to the dot polys- since the cube surface is on a single plane you shouldn't get any distortions. Does this help at all?

Almost forgot; give your cylinders about 9 segments as well; because you need plenty of points to weld your cube points to :)

The term you're looking for is "boolean". This is not available in Swift 3 or 4. I would think there is a workaround though

do you want to just design it for me? sounds like you could set this up pretty fast :)

Maybe design the cude in 3dsmax or lightwave and import it in?
- Bullitt0
yep thats an option. Should be easy enough?

bullitt its real straightfoward dude - i know my explanation is long, but its actually only about 2 or 3 steps - i beloeve in you dude :) post a still when u r finished or in mid work ;)
- ethios0
Bulitt, it would be easier.

ethios I agree, but if he plans on importing from Max or Lightwave or whatever, the swift plug in costs like $300 - and the imported file is not a true 3D file - its a flat keyframe sequence. Swift IS limited, but u can make it do what u want if u just get creative with it :)

He said he had 3dsmax though? Well thats what i presumed. Anyway, you're probably right, I haven't used Swift in years

fadeproof, thanks for the description on how to do this, but I really only know 3d basics in swift. Is there any way you could give me a basic run of all the things I have to do here?
