it's funny- despite all the praise of the new record- I think it's the worst of the bunch.

ong drive is fucking awesome. talking shit about a pretty sunset is a damn good tune.

(Jan 5 05, 07:20)word. that songs is amazing... I remember listening to Dramamine over and over when that album came out. it sounded so fresh.

this new found popularity for Modest Mouse will be the demise for Isaac Brock. I cant see him writing a successful sequel to Good News. so sad, he looks worse and worse every time i see a live appearance.

how can you say good news is successful
ack, i cant even play that album the songs suck so bad. there are like 2 songs i like and i only like parts of them

Lonesome Crowded West and the Moon and Antarctica are my favorites.... if you like Modest Mouse check out "Pinback" and "Minus the Bear" too.

you can buy their album at target. so monetarily successful. that usually destroys talent only because of pressure from record label to make a clone, and the mindfuck of not wanting to lose popularity

without doubt, Moon and Antarctica.
+ I think it was reissued last year with bonus tracks etc.

moon and antarctica is the best MM album of all time. Anyone been listening to them BEFORE their latest CD came out > the rest of you bandwagon jumpas.

The Moon And Antarctica all the way.
It's their best in my opinion, but the others are great too of course.

I agree with Bon-
"Good News" is already Isaac not being able to Top "Moon and Antartica".
"Good News" might be what put them on TV and in target but it is weak compared to "Moon". And although the albums before that are fine records- they do not even come close to the concentration and deliverance of "Moon"- more just like interesting beginnings.

And I doubt this success will be his demise. He's been putting out great tunes for so long. The people came to him - he didn't go to the people.

building nothing out of something is my favorite at the moment...
but i guess it's more of a compilation... not an album... if you wanna be technical... but i don't...

damn free mouse everywhere.

the moon & antarctica.
good news for people who love bad news isn't all that good - it's not angry enough like modest mouse used to be. but i guess that's the price they had to pay to be on mtv.

I think Good News is a perfect balance of Brock insanity and his catchy hooks. Doesnt seem like they went out of their way to be 'mainstream' at all.
I like a lot of songs off of different albums but I'll agree that Moon is my favorite since it's the most epic and bizarre.
And 'Wild Pack of Family Dogs' is one of my favorites.
I remember my friends going apeshit about them in 1996 and I saw them at EndFest soon after and thought they were terrible and annoying.
and then 4 years later I tried to listen to them again and loved them.
One of the best nights ever was seeing Blood Brothers/Botch then running up to 2nd to catch the Hot Hot Heat/Ugly Casanova show the same night.
Lordy, Isaac was so DRUNK.

Between The Moon and Antartica and Good News For People Who Love Bad News are my two favs.
They're kind of a complication album group for me. I like lots of their stuff, but it's mostly spread out over the entire library. :\

"I think Good News is a perfect balance of Brock insanity and his catchy hooks. Doesnt seem like they went out of their way to be 'mainstream' at all."
i don't think they went out of the way either, but it definitely lacks the anger that they used to carry in other albums/songs.
maybe they suddenly got less relaxed and produced that album, which resulted in more people liking their style, or something rather.
