The US has pledged $350 million, France has promised $57 million, Britain has pledged $95 million, Sweden is sending $75.5 million and Spain is offering $68 million, although that pledge is partly in loans.
I hope every country follows suit and shows up during this time.

why do we need two bloody threads on this?

cosmo you don't like good news?

i stopped reading the news, it's just depressing.
just read this though:
http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/12/31…"That's about half of what the little country of Spain is spending," the Vermont Democrat said. "We have to spend a great deal more than that. We should have been eagerly telling that part of the word, especially the Muslim part of that world, that we here in America are generous, a good people, and we are strongly committed to help them."
hmmmmmm...

good cosmo. what is wrong with that? or is it that the US just can't do anything right in your eyes? these are Muslim countries, our dollar has declined, our economy is suffering and we're at war. What do you expect? 3 billion and you would be complaining about something else.

Sen. Patrick Leahy Thursday said the intial U.S. offer "gave the wrong impression to the rest of the world.""That's about half of what the little country of Spain is spending," the Vermont Democrat said. "We have to spend a great deal more than that. We should have been eagerly telling that part of the word, especially the Muslim part of that world, that we here in America are generous, a good people, and we are strongly committed to help them."

thats from the article......DOESNT ANYONE SEE A PROBLEM HERE.....ITS A MUSLIM NATION......WHERE THE HELL IS THE MUSLIM SUPPORT....... SAUDI ARABIA IS ONE OF THE RICHEST COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD.......the money isnt going to get into the right hands anyway....you have to pay so many local authorities just to get the aid to the right people....do you know that there is a report that the gov't in indonesia is letting no aid through the spots where the opposition is...

I have to say that if the US is sending that much cash, I am pretty stoked. About time some of our taxes get spent on helping some peeps out rather than blowing them to smithereens.
- abizzyman0
on top of the cash... don't they have a number of ships heading that way to do hospital support etc with?

thats right. for selfish reasons I hope alot of people take notice of this.
