i had an epson 1280 and it gave me a lot of problems -- the colors were not predictable
the canon I9900 - which i bought a couple of months ago - very reliable
not sure about the 2200

i had an epson and it broke in less than 6 months. i will never buy epson again. i bought the canon s9000 (the older version of the i9900) off ebay for like $180. much better.
i would recomend the canon over the epson for sure

do you use it to print photographs? does it bother you that you can only go 13x19 and not 13 x44? what things do you like about the canon?
- lvl_130
not sure about the size restrictions. are you sure that is the longest you can print on it? i thought they just gave a relative size to the width but maybe not...huh...
i have printed a lot of photos on the canon and they look really nice. my old boss had the epson 2200 and those photos also looked really nice. never did a side by side comparison though. i think they are very comparable though.
things i like about canon are:
speed of printing
color retension of photo
price of ink
sharp image qualitythe one thing that epson has ups on is their archival ink. i'm not sure how the longevity of the canon prints are (i think 25 years or something) in comp. to epson 75 years (but the ink is quite a bit more expensive and the paper is also more expensive) both of which you have to use to get prints to last that long.

yeah.. i'm planning on printing some pictures and selling them. I need the pictures to have a punch to them and I need them to last long.. I know a photographer that uses the epson 2200 and he loves it. The prints are amazing and he uses the archival ink and paper. Does Canon offer something like that? or do i use their normal inks? It also says that the canon uses 8 inks! i can guess the 7 but what's the 8th?

yeah, what salisae said about the colors.
not sure if canon offers anything comparable to epson archival yet...but i'm sure they will in the near future.

i'm running the 1280 now and when i first got it, i swore by it, now i just swear at it. damn black smudge and splotchs everywhere.
the 2200 isn't much better, just got to maintain epsons a ton, as in getting our the Q-tips and alcohol to clean each roller and nozzle. bit of a pain if you need prints quick.
go for the canon. i'm saving for it as well.

can I use the archaic epson paper with the canon? will that help the ink from fading? I plan on print images to sell.. so i need to be sure that the customer will get what they pay for.. i don't want the picture to fade withing 10 - 15 years..
- lvl_130
yeah you can use the epson archival paper with the canon, but there is no 'guarantee' how long they will last without also using epson archival ink, which you obviously can't do with a canon
