I have it.
It nearly killed me serveral times as a kid - some of my earliest memories are of being in hospital for weeks...
Generally it's under control now, but I still carry the inhalers around as I have wound up in Hospital when it could've been avoided. Plus it's embarassing to ask friends to call you an ambulance.
I have the usual meds. Go see a doctor and get them!
If you are ever caught out though - strong coffee can help relieve an attack. The caffine dilates the blood vessels in the lungs.
If you don't like drugs, get vocal lessons and ask them to teach you deep breathing exercises. Helped me a lot.

I have Asthma, best medicine for me is sporting. Go swimming 2 times a week, and go mountainbiking and running as well. If you sport over 3 times a week your asthma won't bother you that much!
