mrdoboline, October is a great month for visiting from a designers perspective
By then a lot of art/design universities has what they call a "geisai" (translates somewhat into "art-festival)
Thousands of students exhibits their work, some of the university club circles put on shows and generally there is a whole lot of that fun wackyness going on. All design/art-related
At the late hours the universities will close but the festival usual continues outside, on the campus
Drinking starts, and
as clockwork, you will find people dancing intoxicated and naked around midnight. At least if you go to universities like TamabiKeeps going for 3 days

OMG everybody 's going to Japan...even my mom this New Year's day!
Anyhow, one of the most amazing places I've seen is this temple called Sanjusangendo in Kyoto (I think that's translated to 1000 Golden Buddhas). It's a super amazing place -- 1000 life size golden buddhas with life size devils in the front. You got to check it even if you're not into budhhism...I'll try to scan the brochure later today and post a link here. Also this temple in Kyoto up the hill (sorry forgot the name or location), but when you walk down the hill the other side, there's all these tombstones with babies on them...weird stuff....
Also check the Nijo Castle in Kyoto...they had an English speaking guide explaining about the Shoguns and stuff which was fascinating.
Have fun everybody!

i want to go because of the preseverence of the japanese mantality to be the best...it shines in their designs...from the individualistc styles of each person's self to the mainstream fashion to the anime to the cuties girls to the food,,,so much to say why...i have met many people from japan and have kept a close friendship with them. in 5 years i see myself fully moving there and making a life for me and my wife. we both love japan and all it offerings!
