pooch, I guess so. i really don't feel it's fair to call me racist because the topic is "photographing black people". anyways, i've got some good advice. maybe an admin can delete this thread? i've touched a sensitive topic that i didn't mean to.

look up the dictionary def of black
http://dictionary.reference.com/…
and the dictionary def for white.
http://dictionary.reference.com/…first we were called the n word, then blacks, at some point maybe we will just be racially classified people. there were so many ways that you could have approached this thread without sounding racist, but it seems like you are still down wit the ignorance.
yeah, darker skin tones would have been a bit less ignorant.
black people is still a derogatory term... even if most people of colour dont even realize it themselves.
its saturday. i dont feel like giving any more energy to this thread... you need to speak some more to visible minorities. if you can count on one hand how many people of colour you know...
old ladies still clutch their purses when i sit next to them on the bus... experience that lately?

i'm sorry for calling you "black" when "Black Entertainment Television" exists, and they teach "Black History Month" in schools. wtf am i supposed to say? look man, i'm sorry if i offended you, but you really hurt my feelings by implying that i'm racist, and if i don't let it out it's gonna bug me for the rest of this weekend. no, i don't know what it's like to be black. sorry you have to go through shit just because the color of your skin. personally, i don't like the word "black", or "white", or "yellow", i think classifying people by the color of their skin is pretty stupid. but i'm talking about photography here. just like i don't view nudity in artistic photography as pornography, i don't view talking about skin colors as being racist when i'm talking about photography. anyways, i'm bummed out now. i'm gonna go drive and get some dinner.

Yo abstrakt, dont feel bad about it, I understood exactly what you asked for and it was in no way, even remotely racist.

you could not be more wrong about the term " black" .. if you have to use th eword you probably do not have enough sensitivity to the issue.
You either see people as black and white yellow or colred and uncolored tinted or untinted.. or you see them as people.. with names and a thousand individual characteristics to describe them including skin tone.
It was insensitive.. but not necessarily racist.. particularly given the latr context of the discussion.
Sorry to present the issue so much in "black and white" but you either see people or you see race.

pagepapa, it is stupid to get mad at people for making distinctions between people based on skin color. That's all it is, a distinction, the same way you would say a boy is a boy and a girl is a girl, or someone is "blonde" or "brunette". If you find it offensive, it's not someone elses fault, especially when the intent to offend is so obviously removed.
