I've been to ALOT of other countries and not speaking the language is the fun part. I drove all over Japan and Spain with no english maps. It's easy. If you want something point.

True. English is world-wide, even just a little bit. Although, I have to admit France isn't one place you want to be if you know no French at all. Well, maybe that and mainland China or the middle of Russia.

I'm going to be going at the end of June. I hope my French-via-the-Public-School-Sys... doesn't fail me! I'm also going somewhere in Italy. Recommendations for there is also appreciated.

i was there the summer before last, when they had the heat wave that killed off all the weak and elderly.
it was hot.
i loved my stay there though. i got to stay right at the base of sacre coeur and spent the evenings on the hill overlooking the city. really nice.
i also got to stay in the latin quarter in a flat that a schoolteacher was renting out while she went home for the summer. i had a rooftop view of the eiffel tower.
the best thing about paris, to me, was the outdoor night life. sidewalk cafes, fountains, wherever. just wandering around at night is amazing.
i would also recommend taking a tour of the sewers, no joke.
i have some fun anecdotes - being a girl by myself was probably not the best idea, french men are pretty aggressive.
