I'm trying to set an expression to have the sound level of my quicktime layer correspond to the same layer's opacity. This is what I have so far:
temp = .757575*opacity
-75.7575*(1-time);
[temp, temp]By "time", I want an expression that will go from 0 to 1 as it moves from one opacity keyframe to the next, which is one second later.
If that doesn't make any sense, I'm looking for a way to reference time in the same layer.

I'm interested in learning more about AE expressions. What's the best resource [online/book] for this?
thx in advance;

To tell you the truth, I've learned what I know from the application's help.
I haven't done anything amazingly complex, but you can get a lot done, just by using the pick whip and pointing at other layer properties.

There are a ton of resources on this subject here: http://www.creativecow.net
Also the book Creating Motion Graphis vol.2 touches on them pretty well.

thank u guys. this is precious information.
just in time for another question:
Is AE still the main tool for motion graphics and visual effects or is discreet's Combustion now on the lead?

combination of the two unfit.

In my opinion AE is still the best. It is affordable and easy to learn. Combustion is great software but there is no reason for me to switch at this point. I know a lot of Max users like it because it works well with Max just like C4D and AE. Combustion has a great keyer and color correction but if you know your AE you can get the same results.

thx. I'm also a MAX user but I'm not sure if Combustion's integrated interface with 3DS and enhanced 3D compositing really makes it better than AE.

I know both use JavaScript based Expressions, so no problem there...

got cool stuff on expressions and stuff, like intro and deptho. a bit.
combusion is easier to use but expensive but then has all these plugins dat cum wit it whic ya gotta buyz Xtra wit da AE. Na mean? Yo wikkit.

I work full-time with a 3D animator that uses Max and let me tell you it is no fun getting the cameras and projects in AE. Combustion will import the Max file with all the camera data very easily.

I'll definitely take that iin consideration.
next, do you use only MAX cameras views/paths for your 3D layouts or also models, etc...?

We use a lot of models and 3D elements, all of the stuff is composited in AE for the final.
