okay, i just bought an ipod from someone (the one with the touch wheel and the four touch buttons above the wheel. 3rd gen?)

anyway, he left all his music on there, which is cool. however, it was formatted for mac (and i have a pc at home)
when i plug the ipod in at home it doesn't recognize it (i thought this was an old issue, but apparently i now have to format it on my pc?

my question is: is there a way around this to use it on my pc at home and mac at work? i'm wondering because if i format it i will lose all of the music that is already on it (15 gigs!). will i have to sit there at work and burn each cd of each cd on the ipod and then reimport them when i reformat?! any hints would be helpful...or a simple you're S.O.L. would be fine as well.

thanks for the insight for a person that just joined 2001

    : )

If the Ipod is formatted for the PC, plug it into a PC and download a program called ephpod to pull all the files to your HD. If the Ipod is formated for Mac, plug into mac and use a program called Ipodripper to pull the files locally.
My advice is when you get your files backed up locally, to reformat it to the PC as with any drive, Macs can read PC, but PC's can't always read Mac.
