airport is showing a signal, a normal signal, and yet nothing can connect. cant surf the web, ichat wont connect, update wont connect, what's going on? worked fine before i restarted it.
anyone know what's going on?

What kinda mac? Your airport card could be dead. Give me your serial number and I can tell you whether or not you're under a warranty.

if your mac has a signal means that the computer is talking to the station, nothing more. if thats the case, you need to check your connection from modem to station. try:
1- reset your modem. unplug it and reconnect after 5 seconds, let it power up and try again.
2- check your network preferences. u on DSL? Router? Cable? give me a little more info.
3. hardwire to the modem. try to see if it a connection problem Vs a station problem.

Well, you're in a good spot since you have apple care. Just give Apple a call and they'll probably just send you a new card.
If you wanted to monkey around with it yourself I could ask one of my Apple techs what you could try out.

Did you upload the latest firmware? I did and now I can't connect to the internet via my AEBS. There are several posts on the Apple discussion forum about this.

sounds like either a connection problem (downat teh moment) or a preference problem, make sure you are set up as airport in sys prefs. log out and back in just to make sure.

dude , it probably isnt your card. cards rarely die. Ask your neighbor if they are able to connect to the internet.

im not sure if it's a campus thing and wireless is down or what. but, it's just airport that i know of, no modem. tried turning it off and back on, tried restarting twice, no luck.
the hard connexion works because im using it right now on my desktop.
just trying to figure out if it's my wireless or campus.

erch! Cards die all the time. However in your setup, it's probably not your card.
Either wait a tick, or take dobs advice and see if anyone near you has an open network. Go for a walk or drive if necessary!

where did everyone go? no one to ask if their wireless is working. guess ill just wait.
i dont think it's the preferences, it was working earlier today, and i havent touched any of that. unless it randomly sets my settings at random moments.

if you load the schizoscopter and connect it to the feedactivator, you should have a robust connection.

In future you should go thru step by step... theres more to it than just the Airport bit...
- Do you have a Wi-Fi (Airport) connection?
- Have you been assigned an IP address? (It will show in Network panel, or get an add-on like Fruit Menu to show it in your menu bar or Apple Menu) If not, is your configuration really correct, or is server/router down/broken/misconfigured?
- if you have both of those, can you get to websites using ip numbers but not names? (Is the service providers DNS server working?)
