If you are making vector illustrations for Print Illustrator is the best.
If you are making vector illustrations for print and want to use the same illustration for Flash Freehand is the best. Illustrations done in Illustrator is often not rendered properly in Flash.
If you want to make vector graphics for websites or for multimedia, Flash is the fastest and the easiest way to go. Not to mention the most flexible.

I have both, but am more familiar with freehand. #1 advantage of FH for me is multiple pages of multiple sizes in same document-- very handy!

Freehand Rocks!
I've preferred Freehand since it was Aldus Freehand!
