i swear, i though i knew type... could someone please explain...
if you print out a letter that is supposed to be 175pt (on teh computer), and then measure that printed letter with a point/pica ruler it is nowhere close...
Either small "x" or uppercase..please shed some light on this fellow nt'ers
thanks

pica rulers make excellent back scratchers.

i have no idea, but i can bump this for ya.

as with everything else screen to paper, it simply depends on your DPI.

i usually find anything at 100% on my screen is about 120% in real life. probably my smallish monitor.

"The size of a typeface is normally expressed in points. That measurement system is taken over from the old days of printing with movable metal. The measurement was not actually a measurement of the face itself, but rather of the type body, i.e. the piece of metal which the face was on. As a result, the 'same' size can actually be radically different from one typeface to another, since not all typefaces occupy the same amount of the type body."

damn, Rand nailed it.

sure, one typeface is taller then another, but wouldnt you assume that a 120pt typeface on a computer is somewhere close to 120pts when printed?
i guess thats just the way it is, but it is strange... and difficult if youre trying to set up some sort of standard using pts as a measurement as pts on a computer are not pts printed..
thanks for the imput.
in other news, isnt it funny as hell when someone farts whilst stanging at a urinal...
- grayhood0
yes, it is quite funny.

dunno about that, but i work with a guy who i hear brushes his teeth at the urinal.
not being a urinal user myself, this sounds odd to me. is it?
- grayhood0
i wouldn't do it.
