"The size of a typeface is normally expressed in points. That measurement system is taken over from the old days of printing with movable metal. The measurement was not actually a measurement of the face itself, but rather of the type body, i.e. the piece of metal which the face was on. As a result, the 'same' size can actually be radically different from one typeface to another, since not all typefaces occupy the same amount of the type body."
