TiVo alt Canada?

is there something like TiVo in Canada? TiVo is currently only available in the U.S. and UK, does anyone use something similar from another company?

there are a few different flavors of free pvr's out there. fuck paying tivo a monthly fee.

Recording TV on PC is bad. Read an article takes to much space up and uses alot of your PC resource to record etc. I tried TiVo out, it's amazing! I want something for the TV not for the PC. Why don't I just download movies rather then see them on TV or Theatre, its not as enjoyable. TiVo is worth the monthly fee. You can do things on your own time rather then on TV scheduale time.

I agree, building your own is the best way to go.
My friend has Sage TV on a dedicated computer, that he bought for that purpouse. (TIVO is actually a computer too, by the way).
What is the difference with tivo?
100s more options than tivo will ever have, you can upgrade the hardrive very easy and install as many as you want, you can use a remote controller and everything, choose the way the box looks, customize menus, even add your own graphics, etc
and besides buying the box, its free.

I don't want to build it though. I just want a box/service i can pay monthly and not have to worry about this stuff.

i never said better option i said TiVo is not in Canada what other services do this stuff. :) thanks for the info, but i need something more that dosn't take so much time to do.
