Wow, watched this dvd yesterday and was blown away. I see stuff like that and its like north american music in general seems so vain compared to that (while it composes about 90% of what i listen to), its beautiful to see something so authentic...i felt the same way when i saw prince buster with the skatalites, or zakir hussein on tabla
its a beautiful dvd takes u through the streets of cuba and stuff...
the movie gave me a revelation, what if instead of artists touring, the audience toured? imagine catching live acts all around the world, watching different groups in their native cities...that would be a sweet trip.

saw the film a while back when it first came out. was trying to get tickets for that show in lincoln center. good points made. just waiting for their next record. the solo albums were pretty cool, but i like them more when they are together. ry cooder tapped into a gold mine.

this is one of my favorite group.

I have been in what you would call an audience tour. In 1999 I got to go along on "the footsteps of Bach" which went all over Germany. It visited all the places signifigant to Bach in celebration of the 250 anniv. of his death. We got to see baroque orchestras perform in the places where his music was originally composed. Very cool.

great idea too - going to a poor country and exploiting the talented musicians.
just brilliant!

love the band, love the music
what blew me away about the dvd was that one guy who was 97 years old, still walking around, being active, recording music. he was telling some old men on the street that the secret was chicken neck soup which he used to make only for hangovers, but now he makes it daily because it keeps him in such great shape. Something to look into...

how do you make it? this necky soup?
