bear in mind, as you foreigners do not know, that Medion is known for the very cheapest in gadgets and electronica and the quality is far inferior to that of the big brands, sony, apple etc.
this ipod ripoff for instance is made completely out of plastics, no metal parts, in a test i read the journalist said the battery-lid fell of in one day, and the display was slightly off angle and not really well fit into the body of the player..
this brand is sold in the Aldi(a grocery retail chain in germany, belgium and the netherlands) , sort of like Wal_Mart but only selling everything extremely cheap products.
i know people with products of medion, camera's, laptops etc. And altho they do work they are not very solid or abundant in features.
so you better think twice about buying this one.

im declaring a fatwa on it.

HAHAHHA AldiPod!
I like it... but I dont want one!
Aldi is russian – right?
- rasko40
kinda reminds me of Darth Vadar soap.
not that I've ever seen Darth Vadar soap or know that it even exists, but if it does exist and had I seen it, then this would definately remind me of it.
- DutchBoy0
hahaha, rasko.
Aldi is german btw.
and yeah, AldiPod sounds funny indeed!
:D

i hate Aldi more that anything... never will i est my foot in that shitstore.. 90% of all the stuff they sell are old and useless...
but the two german brothers who own the chain is two of the ten richest men in the world, so all respect to them ..

Actually one fact from the quality side: This thing has the _same_ DSPs as the Ipod, so there shouldnt be a sound-quality related issue. Furthermore it features SD/MMC-Slot to transfer your pics directly from your cam, which I would love for holidays, has a microphone, you can change the battery easily and it has USB2.0. So there are some nice things about it.
Good that I already have an Ipod ;)
Well an ALDi sux regarding style for sure, but the quality is pretty ok related to the price, actually they are known to be pretty harsh with their suppliers when something doesnt apply their quality standarts

I know Aldi is German – we got Aldi's in Denmark too...
The only thing I dig from Aldi is the pizza crust... easy.
The SD slot feat. is a killer... why not in the iPod? And more why not in the Photo iPod?

beachmeat, like i said, most of their stuff works, but like most ignorant (sorry if i offend you) consumers that go to shite stores like Aldi do, is judge the gadget only on what is INSIDE (same thing people always do when buying digital camera's: BIG mistake to do so!!). Yes, these so called cheap brands may use the same parts for the core of the product, but it is always the finishing design(exterior, details, lids etc.) in which they try to make their products as cheap as possible.
If the lid falls off, the display's fitted badly, buttons are tricky to use or just not robust enough, no way i would ever spend that kind of money on it. not in my lifetime.
a complete waste.
- beachmeat0
Well, you didnt offend me, because actually I would never buy some stuff like that, since I think design and usability are qualities, and I love having high quality products.
I just wanted to respond to the ALDI bashing, saying that they have inferior products in general, which I believe e.g. the IpodFake is not only bad.
- DutchBoy0
yes, and they generally treat their employees really badly. there's been a lot of bad news about this here.
- DutchBoy0
on a different note, did Apple not protect the design of this?
will Medion/Aldi be getting some legal trouble out of this?
- beachmeat0
here == Netherlands?
Well I guess mostly all the big discounters dont give a fuck about their employees. In times where a lot of people are unemployed, companies can pretty much do what they want...
- konspiracy0
i concur.
if its only marginally cheaper than the ipod then surely buying an ipod is better. its surely gonna be better components etc, no?i got a 4gig muvo2 Creative Labs thing over an ipod or a 4 gig ipod.
the reason for being - i wanted something smaller than an ipod to go in my pocket (as ive already got keys, monile, money, cards, ciggys and a lighter ni my pockets and because all the reviews i read said that the muvo2 had better sound quality and longer battery life than the ipod

well, thats not really true - as most of the stuff they sell, mainly food, is EXACTLY what you will buy in another store with the original label on it.
that's not for electronix, though.
www.plus.de - another german discounter has a VERY similar looking mp3 player for 199 in stores
so what!? if this fakeyPod just encourages Apple to lower the Pod prices a bit - then it was good for something!!
AND DON'T TELL ME THE iPOD IS NOT OVERPRICED!!!
- abizzyman0
I just bought a Nomad by Creative Labs that has 60gig of space... for $260 american denari.
... you may turn your nose up at such a purchase because it's not a mac - but I can't justify buying the ipod for any other reason other than the fact that it's 'cute'.
