Hello.
I'm having problems with my almost new 15" powerbook. The battery lasts for like 1 hour and the computer doesnt warn before shutting down. I'm not having this problem when i have the computer plugged in. So i guess it has something to do with the battery. Anyone who's hade the same problem?
Should i buy a new battery or what?
regards
markus

How 'almost new' is it? Can't you get the battery replaced unter warranty?

my 15" powerbook had battery problems too. Mine wouldnt recognize the battery at all, wouldn't charge it and wouldn't run off of it even thought it was fully charged. I wouldn't fuck with it...take it into Apple.
One thing I learned is to take it into a store any time you have a problem...build a nice paper trail so that if it turns out to be a lemon you can act all agro and demand a new machine. I had two problems and took it into the place I bought mine...who didn't report the problems to Apple, so when another thing went wrong I went to the store and started bitching...they had no record of the previous problems and wouldnt even talk about replacing the machine.

Apple is recalling certain 15" PB batteries... maybe yours is one of the bad ones?

It is going to sleep, not shutting down, right?
Depending where you are and how you bought it you call Applecare instead of going to the store... they shoul d tell you what to do. If you have the 3yr Applecare plan, they will replace the battery if it goes under a set charge life up to 3 yrs.

yeah dood get the applecare. I got it on my new PowerMac...I need to get it for the PB now...its getting close to a year and this thing is a lemon.
Mines freezing on startup and the contrast buttons won't work anymore (which is wonderful when you are trying to design on it). The keyboard has been replaced twice now so hopefully they won't have to do it again because of the contrast buttons. I'm really just hoping that they will replace the whole thing soon. I've had way too many problems with this product.

depending on what you're using the powerbook for at the time, you can change the amount of energy it uses in the system preferences.
if you're just playing a dvd or music, there's no point in having it set on full juice.
what's a good battery life? I've been using my gf's pb for the past couple days and am little bit dissapointed by the 2 or so hours that I get out of it.

I'm having the same problem however mine is not under warantee anymore. It just automatically goes to sleep in less than an hour. Should I just buy a new battery or is there another alternative?

Apple can tell you how to run diagnostics on it...

I had a similar problem with my 17" Powerbook battery. I just bought a "refreshed", meaning used battery at the Apple Store last week. It lasts at least three times as long as my original, which I think was damaged to begin with. It would die after about 45 minutes while it still said 50% and with no warning.
Used batteries are about $70. They are usually bought be people who got the wrong thing and immediately returned them.
