hey audio heads,audio newbie here,
i wanna purchase some recording software and budgetwise its between Cakewalk Homestudio 2004 ($125 CDN) or Steinberg Cubase SE -DAW software($149 CDN)
which would you recommend. Do they work with reason? peaceNadvance

Cubase and Cakewalk are both audio sequencers that contain effects units and allow you not only to record music but also sequence back music. If you are looking to use it with Reason, then fine, but ultimately, that means you will be exporting out and import into Cubase or Cakewalk. Although there are application such as ReWire than enable you to record in real-time into Cubase.

cool, thanks for the info

Reason works fine together with Cubase... Don't know Cakewalk, but am very happy with Cubase and the real time interaction w/ external programs.

ReWire from Propellerheads, the same company that makes Reason allows you to easily bring in content to Cubase. http://www.propellerheads.se/tec…

i dont know about the low end version of cubase, but the standard edition features ReWire by default.. and it works like a charm.

wyatt is right, it works well with VST not SX. At least it didn't a short time ago. Good Luck.

my soundcard (soundblaster audigy 2 zs platinum pro) came with Steinberg Cubasis™ VST 4.0 Creative Edition.
is that good for rewire? where would i check? oh and is rewire separate from reason meaning u have to purchase it separately?

The last time I check ReWire was freeware. I have absolutley no idea. I stopped using Cubase and Cakewalk. I am big on Ableton Live! these days. It let's you do anything you want with simplicity. http://www.ableton.com/

yes! Get a copy of Ableton Live 4. It's really charming and and great for live gigs too

Live like the name says is more of a LIVE orientes music tool, yes it is great, but for studio, I will say, cubase is the way to go.
it works perfect with reason, but once you start getting more in to it, you will see no point in using reason in cubase.
hope that helps!
