this might be a stupid question, but how do i increase the speed of my osx when its starting up?
for some reason its running SUPER slow, takes like 10 mins to run desktop...
i havent partitioned hd yet, but im sure thats not the only reason

look in the os-x app thread..
there an app called cocktail and one called os-x optimizer or something..
they seem to fix this..
- designerror0
yeah! get cocktail..
and get rid of your blue g3 too
- DutchBoy0
omg! you are on a g3?
- usrper0
no. thats the thing. its a late g 4..
why the fuck does it take longer and longer to startup?
- DutchBoy0
do you smell something melting there?
- ribit0
dont shut it down. really.
- Kidneon0
you really don't need to shut down your comp....I mean whats the point?
unless your moving it of course.

Either just put it to sleep from now on or try uninistalling some recent software additions.
Uusually after new software is installed the first boot takes much longer but that shouldn't be an issue after the first time.
Or grab MacJanitor, Onyx or another optimisation program.

How many fonts do u have installed? remove some that u dont usually use
- johndiggity0

it makes sense. i have too many unsed fonts in fontbook. everytime i open fontbook it takes almost 8 mins. is that why?
are you kidding about the never shutting down?
- designerror0
yes.. why would you wanna shut down? Sleepmode works just as good you know..
actually i don't remember shutting down my iMac at all..
- usrper0
it just feels like shutting down allows it to freshen things up, how would the ram live up if you never restart the comp?

- usrper0
i read about journaling. what exactly is it?
- designerror0
look at it this way
you need sleep every day, so you go to sleep and wake up fresh and rested, but on the other hand, if you kill yourself it takes along time and alot of people's effort to wake you up again.. same applys for your computer...
now i need sleep, goodnite' everyone..
- usrper0
but you dont run on ram.
- designerror0
