Okay, so I have this theory that the only people who like using this, are people who:
a) stick mainly to vector type layouts without much if any at all bitmap retouching
b) are too stupid/lazy/don't have time to spend to learn the nuances of photoshop.
Using it at work today and want to break something every time I have to open two panels to do something instead of using a keyboard shortcut.
Is there anyone who's a good designer in photoshop that actually prefers using this? If so why?
There are certain things I like but overall I think Fireworks is to Photoshop what FrontPage is to Dreamweaver - for any idiot who wants to make a website.
End of rant.

i like building pixel icons in FW

isn't it more for buttons, rollovers and shit?

Yes, that's about all I want to use it for.
Maybe it's just the people I know - always seem to be asking me for a PNG when I send a PSD

what's wrong with PNG's? i use fireworks when the graphic will be web based because all four of those programs, dw, fw, flash, and freehand all work well together.

of course.

i still use firweworks for laying out how I want the page to look, splicing it up, then exporting, & cleaning up the code in dreamweaver
any photo work I do in P-shop
i find it easy to use, it is a tad buggy tho in OSX

i do all my real work in photoshop. but i pull my layered psd's into fireworks for animated gifs.. or if i want to really crunch soemthing.
ive never really like imageready for some reason.

I like image ready better than fireworks..
and eventhough I use illustrator, if I had to choose between corel and freehand..
corel it is..
macromedia products that are reliable, flash and dreamweaver,

Fireworks is alot quicker to use for simple web graphic, iu, etc. I tend to use it quite a bit and get some interesting effects with it. PS sometimes feels like Word (a little too much crap crammed into one app). Although there is alot you can do with PS that you will never be able to do with FW. I gotta say though that imageready really sux, i mean really, really sux to use.

it cuts and pastes into flash complete with alpha channel

photoshop over fireworks
fireworks over image readyi dont really like fireworks that much, but i have to use it at work sometimes. (like right now)

90% of my image stuff is done in ImageReady (web production, lots of JPEG photo work, batch processing). What does Fireworks do better?

I get in arguments with the art director about Fireworks. It's a great prograqm to use with Flash, mainly for the PNG export..and Fireworks keeps the PNGs in layers and it's easy to go back and forth between Flash.
I've used Photoshop since 2.5, maybe you're too lazy to learn Fireworks?

Can it do layer masks, hue-saturation layers, and pdf export?
I don't know, but I use each of those things daily...
So I guess it needs those and other things...
I have invested to many years into learning how to do pshop stuff quickly, I don't think I could switch...iono tho...
