Howdy humans...I was curious if any of y'all know anything about Iowa. IE: Is anyone from there that can give me some pointers?
Ms. Jennboogers (myself) here is looking into the area and would like to know more.

It's a desolate wasteland.

OK, maybe I shouldn't have made myself sound like a hick when I asked (it's my hair-do, it's getting to me--pigtails)
Seriously, though. I was curious if anyone here might actually know anything about the area ala Ceder Rapids, and especially Mt. Vernon. Thanks much.

where in IOWA are you headed? Unless you're going into the writing program at UI...dunno what's there.

i don't know much about IOWA, but once when driving back from the Badlands in South Dakota, I had one of best nights camping there in my entire life....it was perfect with not a bug in the air, which was like an oasis after camping in bug-overrun SD
i am rambling - sorry

UI has a great printmaking program founded by one of my favorite artists, Mauricio Lasansky.

i think it was michael moore who quaintly quoted:
"midwest could be considered the ass crack of america.."

I was born and raised in Iowa. I moved from Cedar Falls (similar to Cedar Rapids) at 16. I will never go back. Very narrow minded culture. Extreme weather, bugs, wrestling and old fashioned extremely religious ways of thinking. So unless you're moving from N. Dakota or this is your cup of tea think twice.

I read once the Iowa City is the most educated city in the US (per capita). Actually people from Iowa are pretty politcally savvy people. This is a big reason why the Iowa primaries are so important.

Last night on a talk show DL Hughly pointed out the amazing corelation of the red states are the states that believe wrestling is real.

Yes, I believe IOWA is part of Jesusland--most of the US is, unfortunately. But the important thing is that 4 out of 5 of the top colleges are in the BLUE U of Canada ;^)
Anyhow, versa, I appreciate your beautiful depiction of IA & thanks for the interesting tidbits, MIJA.
I am asking about the region for reasons I care not to disclose right now, but I do agree with those who only have funk to say about the state, that it may be a total shocker to go there, as where I too, a Californian born in San Francisco with a higher eduhmuhcation from Los Angeles, may shock them. It's quite interesting to think of, actually. But hmmm... I still have much to learn.
Shout out to Dutchboy: CY? Heya! Nice to get the love. Thanks.

There's some good people there. I have relatives there and used to visit very summer when I was a kid. It's what you make of it, just like anywhere else.

i have heard people say much of iowa and missouri (where i live) are considered "fly-over" country.
