Boy, the French aren't hypocrites or anything...

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh boy, here we go, interesting. Don't get me started on the colonial efforts in Afrique!
French Central West Africa *cough, I mean Gabon.
- gruntt0
yeahhhh how about keeping all of these in the politics thread.

gruntt, true, you got me, check out these little magnifique facts:
1. Only two autocratic presidents have ruled Gabon since independence from France in 1960. Gabon's current President, El Hadj Omar BONGO - one of the longest-serving heads of state in the world - has dominated Gabon's political scene for almost four decades. (a puppet of the French government)
2. Gabon enjoys a per capita income four times that of most nations of sub-Saharan Africa. This has supported a sharp decline in extreme poverty; yet because of high income inequality a large proportion of the population remains poor. Gabon depended on timber and manganese until oil was discovered offshore in the early 1970s. The oil sector now accounts for 50% of GDP. Gabon continues to face fluctuating prices for its oil, timber, and manganese exports. Despite the abundance of natural wealth, poor fiscal management hobbles the economy. (due to wealthy fat cats contracting with outside parties, very typical in Africa)
so let's not point fingers so fast gents.

i was just having fun with ya JazX.
:P
- no_info0
just to be devils advocate... iraq did not have thousands of US citizens threatened with murder and rape.
- JazX0
- no_info0
oh... and there is no politics thread
- JazX0
ahhhh well then therefore I stand corrected.
- Anarchitect0
There we go__________
Comparing Iraq with the present Cote D'Ivoire situation is not just stupid.
It's diehard retarded.
but fuck dat. Let's blame Atlantis apocalipse with Germany too!
- JazX0
Well, that's true, but, let's not sit and pretend that everyone is innocent in their foreign affairs. Because a lot of time you get that type sh*t.
- k0na_an0k0
ah you gotta love the freedom... er... i mean french.
:/
- Anarchitect0
no one is innocent.
[except my 6 year old nephew].
and believe me, every EU contry that had colonies accepts its responsabilities in the huge fuck up that is now most of Africa.
There's no denying it.
But this article is wrong with comparison.
Algiers would be a better choice. In fact your State Department asked for the advice of high ranking french officials regarding that subject, months ago
Well, u should learn about what happened in the last days of the frecnh occupation of Algiers.
Not a pretty site.
- JazX0
The sadest thing is, that IMO, the most beautiful people in the world live in those tortured African countries. I guess it's just more personal, but even myself, I shouldn't be pointing fingers. :)
- Anarchitect0
I beg to differ.
Reagarding Africa, we SHOULD be pointing fingers.
To ourselves.
- JazX0
Well, yeah true, but it always seems to get ignored. I blame the UN moreso. They're supposed entire objective is to serve those types.
For example, I mean the stuff that went on in Rwanda alone. How can you just not have seen that coming? Not see it happening?
- DutchBoy0
wtf is all the obsession of americans with french people. it sounds almost to pathetic to be true?
there are more countries that did not want to join the war in iraq, like germany for instance.
but there's more to it, not?
it's really bizarre how US folks are so obsessed in criticizing France for everything.
on another note: if it wasn't for the "Tour De France" your US cycling hero would never have been this famous.
gee.
- JazX0
There's no hate from me towards France. In fact, if you look at past posts, I like to try to speak French as it's a dignified language IMO. France itself is also very beautiful in many aspects. I think we were just comparing foreign policies and such.
- DutchBoy0
ok.
- DutchBoy0
jazx: always tempering the hate. the sensible american!
:)
- JazX0
it was more geared toward that article Dutchboy. I guess the politica threads got lost man.
