What Baskerville said...
For designers, you lot have got shit taste for artwork that is permanent. On. Your. Body.
Oh well, I hear laser removal prices are falling...
Me? Haven't got one.

I asked a mate to design me an Aries symbol (guess my star sign)... that's where mine came from.
Also, I can't stare at mine every day cause it's on my back... but... If santa brings me the pair of 'ass eyes' I asked for xmas, who knows :D

It's a little provocative to say it, but there is a small point to what didont says. Tatoo's are, in my opinion, influenced by trends too! True, real tatoo enthusiasts don't care about trends. But there is definetly a trend influence, take the whole tribal thing, it was really big in the mid 90's, back then it was all black tatoos, and tribal was hot! Now, there are other tendencies, such as classic rock tatoos, with colours, hearts, wings, shit like that.
But i agree, you'd have to be a moron to get a tatoo just cause it's trendy, but then i guess there's a lot of morons in the world..

I had a burn scar on my leg so I got the squiggly one over it, I ripped my foot out of it socket so I got the arrow pointing to it incase I forget wich one and I had a shite tattoo there before got it covered up thing is though if I don't like the arrow then.......

I disagree with rabattski... So many people have tribal tatts that know nothing about the
cultural heritage of what they're getting (pointless). So they've followed a trend to get these kinda tatts which has made the tribal tatto appear tacky (in the same way that the ying yang, dolphin, rose/dagger and chinese words are perceived to be cheesy).I like Canucks tattoo the best, it's rad. My mate's got a couple of fish/carp tattoo's he designed himself, quite similar to yours :). Post a pic when you get it filled.

^ i designed in in ms paint 4 years ago because i didnt know what illustrator photoshop or corel draw was, so mspaint was the only resource i had lol, did it pixel by pixel
its a symbol that supposed to say my nickname, but then i figured it says every letter in the alphabet, depending on how you look at it, so its kind of that tatoo that can represent anything hhaa

brilliant love it.
This thread is really pissing me off with people talking about trends and what not they have no idea atall like, banging on about the one image and design this and that stay out the thread fools.

oh and its just in english letters, abstracted if you will...i think the tip of it is influenced by the head of the decepticons symbol because i was a retarded kid, but they symbol is basically letters imposed on top of eachother

gyeah aliendn you are the ruler of all that is man

that gold'un kinda looks like some sorta ninja throwing device... I'll get mine done the same and we can see which one causes the most damage to old age pedestrians... ahh, wait, fuck... no - that would be starting a trend wouldn't it :(

respect holmes
yeah its a design board so naturally the trend argument is gonna come up, but its a matter of sacredness you can't understand unless you're genuine about it. i mean its not like tatooing a sports team or something, and its more commitment than a religion with peripheral devices, as you can always remove a crucifix off your neck or a dagger or whatever your religion dictates you wear. yes a lot of people make stupid decisions when it comes to tatoos, but a lot don't, so leave it....except people that get roses wrapped with a snake, that CAN'T mean anything lol.

antilopen, nessdog: i know what people you refer to and i know what you mean but tribal tattoos did had and still has it's origin in those cultures. it didn't start as a fashion or a trend. people took and still take 'em because they are interested in those cultural backgrounds. plus it was refreshing for some people who weren't interested in dragons, vikings, skull & bones and what had you more back in those days.
let me put it differently, people who take tattoos out of fashion are pretty much dumb and in my eyes they aren't tattooed at all. fashion only works magazine deep. that's the whole point. let me quote didont: "Funny to see people with tribal tattoos which they had done many years ago, its so out right now..." is just an ignorant and generalizing statement just because you don't know the motivation of the people who took 'em.
btw wouldn't call a classic tattoo theme a tendency. yes you see them more and more and again it depends on the motivation. so many people, so many motivations for taking a tattoo. regarding the classics, to me it's just a reappreciation of the old because that's where western tattooing has it's roots.
aliendn: a tattoo doesn't have to mean anything. if you have the desire that it needs to mean something than go with it.

I had my concept for 7 years and finally broke down and started it at the beginning of the summer. Although the solid black work is takend from tatt's of eastern culture and indiginous tribes. I knew it was the only one I wanted but also knew it required alot of time, money and pain.
