i was just talking to one of my comp sci buddies.. and he brought up a good question regarding the mac chip architecture / structure and the pentium structures.. what my friend told was that files are encoded differently among the two platforms.. e.g. movie files - mpg's etc. etc. from his experience his friend who was on a mac sent him some uh movie files and he couldn't load it on his wintel machine..
any mac users have some say on this.. ? how bout divx for mac? is there such a thing..

i've never had a problem, infact, i took a hard drive out of a pc, popped it into my mac, and it worked without formatting, the mac just recognized it as a windrive.
nowadays everything works pretty well together, zip files on macs, doc, etc. i havnt had a problem, exe's dont work tho

there is only one thing you need to know about playing PC movie files on a mac and vice versa.

yeah VLC rocks for video on the mac. Also you can intall divx codecs for quicktime
The only movie files i have any trouble with are windows media files which sometimes work and sometimes just don't.

Perhaps the guy used some wierd codex and when the other guy tried to open it he didn't have the codex installed.
I've had no movie problems with mac to pc and you can get divx for mac from divx.com.....er

go to http://www.crucial.com to check what type of RAM you need for your PB.
installing your own RAM is quite easy. the whole process is explained in the manual. basically, you have to turn it off, remove the battery, unscrew 4 screws, pop the RAM in and put everything back. 5' process with very little that can go wrong (if you are gentle, of course).
ah, and if you don't have a manual, go to http://www.apple.com and dld it in PDF format.

no problems here with switching. only problems I encountered are .doc made on PC software - they work like shit on osx.
