why not combine them into one app? everyone that uses illy uses photoshop i'd think. and since there's vector support in photoshop, why not make it actually GOOD vector support?

Different uses, Adobe wants to sell more than one app. It's marketing and business. Big $. However, a good idea for competitors, been discussed here.

And why not include After effects too, or even Flash, oh no sorry this one is macromedia.

Not everyone uses both. Imagine how many tools you'd have to contend with in the pallette, and the amount of windows would be rediculous.
Not to mention the processing power it would consume...

photoshilluwordflaweaver..
not that would be a killer app!!
- kodap0
not only.. if you combine both, would be a lot more heavy and more difficult to learn working.
There would be a whole lotta mess for beginers..
maybe in the future...
firework is a good example of what you're talking... it can handle and export/import both eps paths together with all other web-optimized images or PSD's layered.. Tiff's.. etc into a single canvas artwork.
anyway as JzX said.. it's a matter of $€..

True, kodap, the process of learning it would be very different.
In fact, I've been told by some pretty high top notch illustrators that Fireworks is actually better than Illy. That surprised me a lot.

dif. styles + techniques = dif. applets

ok, how about photoshop just makes its path manipulation more similar to illustrator ;P
...actually i see what you guys are saying, illustrator was/is one of the most non-instinctive application i've encountered or has a wierd learning curve
- JazX0
well, that's different, they could improve different aspects of how bitmaps are handled, etc. But never would they combine it. Personally, I don't think they should.

ok how about combining photoshop with microsoft word '97 so that whenever you mess up with paths, a nice friendly paperclip pops up to say "take it easy holmes, i'l walk you through this"
but i'l check out fireworks, thanks

...why not allow both Windows and Mac OS run independently in one machine....
( * just thinking for myself )

its called corel draw... illy, PS and indesign in one... go try it then rethink your idea
(it sux)

It's kinda nice having the 2 apps.. for example running a batch in PS and using Illy to design ...
But I'm sure they could figure it out. Probably just a memory, spacing, processor issue

The way to go about it would be one app.
Users pay money to unlock features and output formats.
i.e. you would have bitmap tools and you could pay to unlock vectors tools or web tools.
or you could have bitmap output, swf output, video, etc.
That way you could buy, for example, bitmap and vector features with only video output options. you would get only the tools and output options you use and need. The learning curve would also fit your needs and you won't have to have different vector tools for PS, AI and AE as it is now.
Some hi-end apps work that way—you have everything and you can unlock features and output formays.

there's an app called canvas that tries to combine everything.
It should be banned by the Geneva Convention laws.
