so i just finished a series of projects for a client and now, all of a sudden, she is not returning my emails or calls.
she has yet to pay-up...
thing is, she really doesnt understand that all files are still on my server.
my question is, how long do I wait until i pull the plug on the sites? weeks, months, days?
wadda ya think?

30 days from when you invoiced her.

5 days, man who can't return a call within 5 days.
- blaw0
if you stated that payment is full was due in X days following completion/billing/whatever, it will have to be after that.
pulling the files will certainly end that relationship. is it possible she has a good explanation for not returning your calls (out of town, sick)?
- level20
send a warning email saying you will pull down the site if she doen't pay up by a certain date....if she doesn't give up the cheddar - yank it off.

good idea...
i'm just too nice, i guess. even though i've been burned in the past (law suit, etc.) i still give clients the benifit of doubt.
F*ck i hate this.

yeah that makes sense, what type of stuff? as long as you got control, I would trheaten her nicely. Give her two weeks

That is messed man...I say you hunt her down jsut kidin...A week then move on
- iDp0
maybe she died...I would go get a card from hallmark.com consoling her for her death.
'I have assumed that you must have gone over to the other side since you haven't made contact for a while, which is so unlike you! I have these files here that are necessary for your site to go live, maybe I will bring them to the wake on CD for your family'

it is a series of medical education sites for a university here in Denver. she just presented at a national conference, which ended a few days ago. i'm worried that she presented, covered her ass( as it was a gov. funded project) and now that she is done with the conference...no need for the sites.
- iDp0
hahaha seriously I would do that. If someone can't get back to me once I've finished their work, made me waste all of my time..I think thats a bit more cold then sending a funny condolence card.
To me it would say...'Hey you need to call/pay me, you are being an ass after I trusted you.'

man, that sucks.
i have/had a client that terminated their contract with me and are trying to negiotiate my invoice. they said they received 3 proposals that were all cheaper than my invoice, so they're thinking that legally binding contract can be negotiated... they should have read the 'termination' section of the contract, which pretty much puts the ball in my court. it's like if you asked a plumber to put a sink in your bathroom, but once it was in, you decided you wanted a whole new bathroom, and told the plumber "yeah, i'm just gonna pay you 1/10th of what you're charging me because it's not what i want anymore"bitches

how much does anyone think that the other 3 proposals are from like the IT director's cousin or little brother or something who has a warez'd copy of DW
- iDp0
contracts contracts contracts and downpayments. I have horror stories! Now that its time to go freelance again, I'm working on a nice contract. I'll post it as soon as it is revised. Actually my pal Emerson Bantegui from quoobdesign.com wrote it using the full one in the AIGA book, we worked on condensing it for our needs...I'll pull our logos off of it and post it for everyone.
