dopepope: make sure you follow the instructions regarding pluging and unplugin the scanner when you update the software. same thing happened to me like 4 times and then i followed the instructions and it works from ps.
db: buy a canon. epsons are shit. a belt in my old photo 760 broke after 6 months.

if that scanner is hooked to yer mac via scsi then it might be the only way. a friend of mine has the same shit with an old scanner of his..
it sucks.
i have had quite a few times that i had to deal with corporate arrogance like this, refusing to give you proper updates when you paid big dollar for your hardware..
:/

last call for the rip

not sure what you mean by that bonsef.
The scanner is usb into my G5. It's that $99 Canopscan. Great little machine. It used to work on my computer until I upgraded to Panther. No it always tells me to 'connect the scanner' when I try to import from it. You are saying I have to unplug it's usb connection before I install the driver/plug in?

thx johndiggity.. i will have a look into the range of canon printers.

yes. unplug. install. then plug back in when it says so. is it the LiDE 30 or 40? same one i got and sounds like the same problem.

I just installed the latest driver package for the Epson and I still can't get the thing to clean the heads. The utility is still greyed out. I'm completely lost.
- DutchBoy0
did you reboot both mac and printer?
- BonSeff0
fuckin rub em with an oxy pad.
i dunno
we pitched our epson a while back for that same problem. i cant believe they dont make the heads replacable
i know that doesnt help/
hope you get it worked out

remember to repair permissions before and after you install that type of driver.
there are some third party develpors that make rip software for the epsons in osX but it's a pricey bitch, almost as much as the 1280.
i'm definitely going for the Canon i9900 when i get the cash, just too bad Canon doesn't make any large format matte paper yet.

the whole solution to the printer hell would be if someone finally made a printer that feels pain.
I would so solve to torture my printer everytime it acts up...
