thats because skin is made up of different hues and shades and blemishes, so one colour wont give you good results, you need an array of colour

Well, even white people have different shades.
But assuming you are referring to some generic white person, there is not just one color at play. Keep in mind that skin is somewhat translucent at thinner sections so that in itself makes it more reddish. Not to mention a million more factors that I am not qualified to go into.

illustrator has a skin tone palette.

james the point we were making is that there is no colour, he could be using the perfect colour but it wont look right
if you are using illustrator cs there is a skin colour palatte that you can load (same way you load up pantone palattes)

try using peach mmmm

if youre using one color you can always change it later.
but yeah youll need multiple layers/transparencies/gradients to get the "real" look of skin.
just use light pink, GOD.

peach isn't a color

Take a photograph of your flesh colored crayon circa 1950 and run the photoshop eyedropper on it.

or go look on the interweb for an image of what you deem the perfect skin tone for your project and eye drop it.
