just my 2 c:
u2 - ipod________________
i dont care if u like u2 or u dont, but consider a band like u2 going into the online business like they do now... this is a big step forward for the distribution of music online!
more major bands/labels will follow. this will also be good for smaller record companies, or even bands will do there own thing without a record company!!!greets

I love when people talk about the validity of a musical act by how many records they have sold or their marketing tactics.

Shit people.
You're running around with old models...
The shame...

it's an iPod not a camera. get over it.
never satisfied, always wanting more.
and why in the hell would you want to watch video on a screen that size.
- mrdobolina0
video on a screen that size would be cool on the train.

I think it looks radical. but I lothe the signatures on the back and I also lothe teh U2 they are a band that my mate could do better with his ass. Grammer ain't strong with me.
- MXS0
upto the point where battery life doesn't suffer - more feature such as video would be neat

the validity of U2 is far beyond their marketing schemes and how many records they sold-
Listen, I could careless about U2, and it seems most of you can too- but to deny that people do care- to not realize that they are one of the biggest groups in the world-
U2 is a supergroup- their is a reason every album goes gold- because people like them...Bono is a worldwide hot shot- known just as much as Michael jackson, Madonna, and the McDonalds logo- who would you think would have been a better group to intoroduce this idea to? itunes is now almost completely national- and nationally U2 is popular.
Even though I never really cared for the band I have to respect their longivity and influence on pop culture but I tend to forget that here at NT respect is a dirty word.
And again- this isn't even about U2- it's about a new specialized way to distribute back catalog music from popular groups-
I will say it again- this is the start of something- next up:
-The Rolling Stones
- The Beatles
and so on...Apple is trying to sell products- and sorry MrDob but U2 is going to sell more than Curtis Mayfield no matter what your preference.

dont think of the ipod as pictures on a mini screen- think of the fact that is can be connected to a monitor- this is a presentation monster. Screw powerpoint and lugging around a laptop- now you just upload a slideshow and slip that shit into your pocket until the meeting...
Or full DJ presentations...
And this uses Quicktime technology so video hacks will come- give it a month before someone cracks it.

Whatever you might think of Steve Jobs or Apple, the product itself pays attention to all the issues around illegal downloading currently going around in the safest possible way. From the marketing point of view, is a perfect launch.
It's black and red because the product is addressing the rock/punk I-give-a-damn about design target market. Remember, all the gothic, punk and "hard" guys around who attend concerts don't think the white Apples are masculine, gay they would say.
U2 has been chosen because they support "legal" downloading as Apple does, and they want to be perceived as such. That is brand marketing at its whole!
That's why it's a limited edition, as they only use it as a strategy move in their conquest for designing the perfect device with a huge hard disk onto which you can upload all your files you'll use on the go.
The battery problem will probably be fixed once the technology around it develops a more lasting energy source.
