Does anyone know how ProTools would run on a new 1.33Mhz 14" iBook?

not very well

protools (any audio app for that matter) really shines when it has a hefty on-chip cache. it'll work, but you won't be able to have a lot of tracks at the same time.
i run nuendo and reason on my powerbook, and i had an ibook and it would only run reason (and not very well either)

what interface do you use jpea?

m-audio quattro usb
not bad latency for a usb device, and it was nice and cheap:-)

cool, i'm sort of in the market... thanks.

Thanks guys - a buddy of mine that runs PC's for audio mixing want to get a mac just to run ProTools but only wants to spend about $1700 Cdn. - So thats pretty much his only choice.

what about a g3 and digi02?
- tny0
i mean, g3 and digi *01??
- jpea0
well, if you're gonna work with protools on the mac, any interface that's digi branded is going to work fairly decent, the only limiting factors really being the amount of ram you have and the versitility of the interface. the processor just really matters for real-time vst's and how many tracks you can run at once

word, i was thinking it might be a cheaper solution for him...thanks

yeah, the digi001 might be cheaper, depending on what you need to do. is he trying to do some intersive recording or is it just little things? (i do putzy things on mine.. interface sounds, little guitar here and there).
oh, and fyi though, my powerbook freezes and needs a reboot whenever i plug in the quattro and turn it on, but minus that once it's working, it works great. (never had a prob on the PC at all with it though)

Ya - this guy is going to do full audio tracks...so i guess no iBook and protools for him if its going to muck things up....
