tfsmag, i don't know about you, but i find clothes and dress a certain way because that's my artistic style. do you have the same type of attitude towards design as you do your clothing? god i hope not, or you'd have a plain text website.

I guess we all do it, but in my eyes, a good designer is a person that does a good job comunicating a message, not a brandwhore that spends 400 bucks on a pair of jeans.
I do believe the way you dress is a way to make a statement, To me, wearing brand name clothes means "I do what crowds think is cool" and I dont feel identified by that at all.
Im not saying what is right or wrong, but if you are trying to say that if a designer that doesnt pay 400 bucks for a pair of jeans means that his work would probably be bad, my friend Im afraid to tell you that with time you will realize that is wrong.
First thing first: over priced clothes doesn't mean good clothes, it means overpriced, that's all.

you are not your clothes.

don't talk to me like i'm a child. what i'm saying is that as an artistic person, and what i've seen in my artist friends, is that their artistic vision doesn't stop at the canvas, it carries over to every part of their life. if plain levis and a plain shirt is what you feel is beautiful, then i applaud you for following your feelings. if you're against corporate brands and wear plain pants and a plain shirt because you're making a statement, then i applaud you. if you wear plain levis and a plain shirt because you could give a damn about how it looks, close photoshop, close illustrator, close final cut, close premiere, and drop that sketch book because you're lying to yourself. if artistry doesn't carry over from the computer, you seriously need to rethink what you're doing with your life.

oh and if you can't afford anything aside from generic stuff, this doesn't apply to you :)

keep in mind that you're not paying that extra money for "a good pair of jeans", you're paying for brand assets. the look, the mental associations, the brand's values, it's vision, the whole package.
you guys know this marketing stuff.

i wear them every day.
you wear a $500 suit once a year.
even if it's excessive, it's fucking sweet to have a good pair of jeans.

so are all you guys whining about the expense of brand named clothes using gimp on linux?
Maybe you live on a farm and raise and grow your food rather than going with brand names at the super market.
There's nothing wrong with preferring a brand, especially if the clothes are made with a better cut and quality.
I know a lot of people who consider paying $600+ for photo-touching software is pretty whacked out, especially when psp is under $100 and gimp is free.

- tomkat0
I can see you 400$ jeans wearers taking care of your clothes.. haha
"MAN!! you just spilled on my 56k shoes, fucker!!"

you guys act like hoes sometimes.

enobrev, bad analogy. Photoshop is a tool for professionals and has the ability to generate revenue.

every status has its symbol.

oh abstrakt... if i put a 500$ tag on my levis and replaced the patch with something else you'd buy it up and then come back here and tell us how you have to spend stupid expensive amounts on our clothes to be an artist.
you know what? your reasoning is flawed man. you should be making your own clothes and creating new styles if "your art carries over into everything you do". Seriously, saying these 400$ jeans are part of your artistic lifestyle is like someone saying they're a cutting edge designer because they downloaded some templates and templatemonster.com and paid a shitload of money for them.
Don't get so defensive because i think only an idiot would pay over 60-70$ for a pair of pants.

How much you spend is usually relative to how much you make. Did anyone see that Osbourne episode when they go shopping? What was the final bill? 22,000$? See.. your 200$ pair of jeans aint shit now.
