i'm in school right now and my teacher has just given us an assignment for a self promotion peice. it can be anything and he stressed that he wanted us to think big.
I was just wondering if anyone has come up with really creative and original ideas for self promotion
thanks

not to rag on you or anything, but i'm going to be honest. if you can't come up with something on your own for a self promotional piece then you are going to have a hard time in this industry.
now i'm not beating you down or anything... this is actually good. i can remember when i was in college with a similar project. figure out what makes you YOU and go from there.
this is a project you really need to do on your own.
good luck.

We made temporary tattoos for a clothing line last year as part of their launch, and won a couppla ideas for originality. This happened in London so go ahead and borrow it.

thanks for the advice kona. I know i have to figure this one out on my own but i just wanted to see what other people have done to broaden my thinking a little bit. And that rock though the window was definately an original idea.

I did a package containing a t-shirt and booklet of work. That got me quite a few interviews and people are stoked when they get something they can actually use. Just remember, if you're going for a design job, make sure the design execution is as good as the concept. We get a lot of "zaney" promos but too often they're very poorly designed, so in the end they're rather pointless.

instead of doing something crazy and zany like a lot of students do, why not do a full corporate guidelines promoting yourself. Design your own logo and apply it to stationery/website/cars/cd roms/planes/adverts/showreel/exh... displays , just about anything you can apply a graphic to. The tutors probably wont be expecting this and if done right can look really professional. If I was interviewing something like this would impress me more than just throwing a stone through a window...

for those in a hiring position, what was the coolest promotional piece that you have recieved?
- jox0
I like save's idea.
Among obscure and often pointless attempts to impress, a professional and well-exceuted identity would stand out.
