is there some sort of limit? i've got 6 layers showing upon click in firefox, but only 3 showing in safari. anybody ever run into something similar? is there some work around to this? thanks.

don't think any browser has a limit on that type of thing. is there a code sample to look at?

check the z-index atributes of each - if there's something weird

clicking on the lower left box should show 5 more boxes. i'm seeing them in firefox, but not safari. i'm sure my code is messy, but i can't figure out the problem.

i can hardly see anything. and i definately can't read any of that.
all that aside, i came across the same problem. unfortunately i can't remember how it was solved :(

what's your resolution? i've only got a 15 inch at 1024, so it might be difficult at larger sizes. got it to work in IE 5.2. i don't know what the deal is. i fucked around with the z-index, clipping, everything i could think of. ?
- lvl_130
heh. my res is at 2048x1536 'cause they won't give me two damn monitors!
I was actually refering to the colors, but it was more of just a wiseass comment : )

yeah, not a lot of contrast, i know. i'll change it if i get some more negative comments from others. let me know if you remember the work around. i have no clue what the deal is.

I would worry more about people being able to read your content. dark colors over dark colors is deffenetly not the right way to go if you want to promote your work.
Unless for some strange reason you want the user to highlight the text before reading it.
just a thought

I'll give you another negative response on the legibility. I'm looking at it at 1152 x 864 and I'd be shooting blind if I was looking at your portfolio...
In regards to the layers, I see all 6 in IE and Mozilla.
I don't understand (if I'm reading the post correctly) why you have 6 layers popping up for the one item anyway. Why not use 1 layer and have 6 options inside of it?
From the way I am viewing it, it would function the same way with one layer becoming visible with the different options as the innerHTML of the div...

thanks everyone. i'll be sure to fix the contrast a little. it diplays fine on my screen, but i was worried it would be too dark on others.
i had originally had all the options on 1 layer, but some of them weren't showing up in safari either when i tested. i'm not sure what the problem is. could be something with fireworks exporting the html. was giving me a low memory error when i export a 530 x 10 2 frame rollover. i might reinstall the mx studio tonight and see what's up.
ideally i'd like to do the rollovers in css, but i'm just learning it. anyone have links to css tutorials about rollovers with images only? thanks again for your feedback everyone.

here are some good places to start for learning css...im sure you will find some stuff about image rollovers there...though i think the only way to do that with css is background images which can load slowly / wierd...dreamweaver's rollover code (using javascript) is pretty strong compatibility-wise...

CSS Rollover code:
Had to do this today so here's the code:
.rollOverBox {
width:150px;
height:22px;
display:block
background-color:#666666;
}this makes the div class for the box of the rollover
.rollOverBox a:hover, .rollOverBox a:active {
background-color:green;}
that sets the rollover state. Put whatever text you want in there and add style to it also if you want in those tags, if the size changes on the rollover just set the width and height to the same size as the first one...
