I have 2 leechers in my wifi.. how can I contact them over their IP (osx)??
i know i could just WEP my net, but I want to scream the hell at them..

It's your own fault for not securing your network.

Dummy, you should have turned on WEP in the first place.
You dont deserve to be mad.

like I said, I know.. but there is no data accessible and I have a flat rate..
I might wanna offer them something to share my connection, ya know?
- mrdobolina0
do you know who they are? There are 90 tenants in my building and 13 insecure wireless networks available.

i be a leech... and i fuckin love it.
- tomkat0
look.. all i want is to send them a message:
"if you want to use my connection, be so kind and pay for it."
so, can anyone tell me how to on OSX?
- mrdobolina0
I dont think you can do that, other than changing the name of your network to that.
- tomkat0
well on WINDoooze you can.. so it has to be in osx..!?

doesn't mean that there's always an equiv. on the mac... that's just an assumption.
you can on windows because you have the network messenger in 2k/XP pro.
not so on the mac.
just lock it down or (if you can), setup a proxy server in front of the wireless router and have them login and give some info to contact them. most don't have it though :-/
- tomkat0
alright thanks jpea - that was helpful at least
I just kicked'em now.

I wonder if you could customize the text of your password message.
- function820
in theory, but you would have to upload it to the router again with a firmware upgrade, and who knows if it would work right

i made the name of my network my name and phone number and WEP'd it up.
- instantok0
how bout you just connect to their public folder and leave a text file with your info and ask if they want to pay to share
- ribit0
Thats assuming they have file sharing on. I cetainly don't when I'm leeching (err...using freely provided services assuming that the provider is being a nice 'net citizen' and deliberately sharing)
