I've been using PC's for about 5 years, then decided to get an old g3 powerbook to test websites on and just to be familiar with osx (it just do happens my PC died the day it arrived and I have since had to rebuild a new one from scratch)
saying that - the 400mhz G3 seems to run as well as my 700mhz pentium, and I know it's an old model, but it's true that you're often sneered at if your not on mac. daft really as you use the same software, and the speeds are comparable in real terms.
anyway once i get my new 200gb harddrive and connect it up to my 2ghz PC motherboard I fear the pismo will be relegated to using wifi at my local starfucks.

Is this a PC v Mac thread in disguise?

quite happy to use both as long as the job gets done. PC in work, macs at home.

"Is this a PC v Mac thread in disguise?"
Please don't make it one people.
I am only interested in hearing about actual experiences made in a Mac to PC switch. Prefably from people doing layout, illustration and working with large files in PS (for a living).

I have had a mac g4 for five years and its starting to croak, I get really mad with it regularly, so i bought a PC for the time being, and because they are cheaper. I have had just as much stress with the PC.
I think the key is, whatever you buy, buy stupid amounts of RAM and everything will be ok.
I pretty much always do print graphics. My Mac, even at 5 years old, is more stable than my pc ... but just takes about 4 times as long to do anything. Sometimes when I save, I can make a cup of tea, grab a biscuit and return before it is finished. However, my pc cannot handle it and photoshop or illustrator just crashes.
However i find email and internet use on a mac horrible, and for that reason, I will always try and keep both machines in some way or another.

theFriction, I am in the exact same spot (execpt that I havent bought a new machine yet). Are you saying that PS and AI crashes when you do heavy stuff? Does this happens alot?

I have an intel 2.8 with a 1 gig ram on a xp machine. It is stable as stone I am telling you. I can run flash+dw+ps+illy at the same time without crashing anything.
try this at mac, and you will see the difference.
I have heard that you cannot run dw and flash at the same time on a mac because of a bug.
This is macromedia's fault anyway.without forgetting I am thinking to get a g4 powerbook too :)
we need to play with it sooner or later.
