My point is that you don't know who he is so you assume he's just another ignorant rapper who is incapable of critical thought and philosophies. I'm not going to sit here and explain to you what his contributions to the hip hop culture have been but the man is a legend. Nothing personal, I just disagree entirely with your assumtion that he's ignorant or uneducated.

It seems like that's a really long winded but semi-articulate way of saying you can't support your claim, All you point to is that he must not be ignorant because he's a legend. My questions is, why should I subscribe to the retarded rap community's definition of who a legend is? Tupac is a legend too, but he certainly isn't a philosopher. They're both idiots who have led their own communities down nihilistic, self destructive, conspiracy riddled delusions of black identity and black empowerment, which have sabotaged the strides made during the civil right movement and contributed nothing to black success

How has KRS1 contributed to the self destruction of the black race?
- kingjulien0
Um, by glorifying/justifying gun violence (btw the Black Panthers were thugs not revolutionaries), by making alleged comments like the ones which started this thread (and yeah, after reading his response I'm pretty comfortable with the validity of the charge) and by perpetuating 400 year old racist conspiracy theories about white plantation owners, which are based partly in fact, but have no context in today's analysis of race relations and the nihilism rampant in the hip hop community --which KRS-1 has now created a school to further advance it's silly political agenda

Do you think black people are on equal footing with white poeple in the United States right now?
- ricstultz0
KRS 1 is a tool who needs a career boost, sorry ass.....
Chuck D is the real deal.

BDP was dope in the day tho.

Mr-Dobolina I like you, so just to be clear, we're discussing, not arguing......
With that said, do you think the fact that the black community has the highest illegitimacy rate, the highest murder rate, the highest crime rate, and the highest suicide rate is really "whitey's" fault anymore? Sure, we're still a racist society, and changes need to still be made, but the opportunities for blacks nowaways are far superior than even 30 years ago. Young inner city blacks gravitate to people like KRS-1, and think he's got the message, but they should really focus on school and jobs and respect for family and community. Having a thuggish persona is counterproductive to all of this, particularly getting a job.

sounds like Bill Cosby's stuff he was saying a few months ago...i'm not black so i can't really be subjective.

kingjulien, KRS has always expressed a harsh commentary on life based on where he lived and grew up in. 30+ years and counting. He's a legend in his community whether you feel he's contributed to it or not. Whats ignorant to you may make perfect sense to many. Obviously commenting on 9/11 is a touchy subject because so many lives were lost but its not unimaginable to think that the World Trade Center had a negative symbolism attributed to it within certain communities. It's the symbol he commented on, not the loss of life. Now the contribution hiphop has had in the black/latino communities is an entirely different argument but in my opinion, hiphops greatest contribution has been to shed light on the disarray of inner cities all over America. You're pigeon holing an entire artform into this gangster rapping, medallion wearing, big car owning stereotype which is a detriment to civil rights and black success.
