try opening the header grahic in photoshop, save it as a .tiff and place that graphic in your document.
you may lose some quality, but it should take care of the .PDF export issue you are having.

pagemaker has locking and masking features built in. these are available under the "element" menu. perhaps it has something to do with that.

check master pages too - the header could be locked on a master page.

this thread title gave me a kink in my neck... i'm not joking either.
i wouldn't export as a pdf from PM. I ALWAYS printed to a postscript file and distilled it from there.

gorbie stupid question, but how do you print to a postscript file withing pagemaker 6.5?
i also have access to indesign 2.0 here, but being a dunce when it comes to printing doesnt help. oh and the original file of course was made in pagemaker 6.5. would appreciate any insights you got.

god it's been a while since i used it.. and i don't have it here.
It's kinda complicated if you haven't done it before.
Maybe try and open the PM file with inDesign. If all you're links and fonts are okay - it should work fine.
Exporting from ID is a different story. It works way better as they use totally different ways to create PDF's.
Try that first if possible.
