Ok stop laughing.
I know nothing about printing. all i know is that the boss wants me to export a pagemaker file (in 6.5) to a PDF that can be printed. The problem is, when its exported, the color is preserved for the graphics, but there's header thats supposed to be blue, and exports as black when its made into a pdf. wtf is going on? when i print straight from pagemaker, the color blue in the header is retained, but when i export it as a pdf it turns black and hence prints black when i print it as a pdf.
i tried opening the pdf in illustrator and noticed when i right clicked on the header, there was an option to "release clipping mask". does this mean the graphic designer that actually made this before made some "trapping" thingy? lol i dont even know what that is as im not in print. god help me. any ideas? and the file was made in page maker 6.5 and im not about to recreate it(someone else did it) please let there be some ex pagemaker NTer's.

try opening the header grahic in photoshop, save it as a .tiff and place that graphic in your document.
you may lose some quality, but it should take care of the .PDF export issue you are having.

You know whats wierd? i can't even select the header graphic! its like its locked or something i dont get it. any idea on what might have been done to it that i can't select it?
cheers for the help buddy.

pagemaker has locking and masking features built in. these are available under the "element" menu. perhaps it has something to do with that.

this thread title gave me a kink in my neck... i'm not joking either.
i wouldn't export as a pdf from PM. I ALWAYS printed to a postscript file and distilled it from there.

gorbie stupid question, but how do you print to a postscript file withing pagemaker 6.5?
i also have access to indesign 2.0 here, but being a dunce when it comes to printing doesnt help. oh and the original file of course was made in pagemaker 6.5. would appreciate any insights you got.

god it's been a while since i used it.. and i don't have it here.
It's kinda complicated if you haven't done it before.
Maybe try and open the PM file with inDesign. If all you're links and fonts are okay - it should work fine.
Exporting from ID is a different story. It works way better as they use totally different ways to create PDF's.
Try that first if possible.

check master pages too - the header could be locked on a master page.
