Do people charge full design rate for meetings, consultations, and/or training?
I have a client that wants to meet with me for a full day to provide some minor training, and provide info on what they would need (skill set, equipment) to hire a designer on full time.
Hourly... flat day rate?

Consulting is a full-time job for some. Its also a high-paying job in the IT industry. If I were you I'd google consulting groups to see if you can't ween info from those who do it for a living.

$50 an hour for stuff like that

Same rate, plus expenses. If it takes me an hour to get there, I charge an hour.

i just bill it at my same hourly rate for design.

i'm with jox: for meetings I always charge a 2 hour minimum.
Not for the initial consultation of course but afterwards it gets billed. I know some consultants that charge 4 hours min for a meeting (prep time, travel time, just thinking about it, etc)

i might do 30-45 minutes initial free consultation. 1 hour max. then for a regime of what the client is asking, training, info, basically the years of your experience put into a ball and put on his lap as a package deal, like was mentioned. else, if you can get from 500-650 per day, that would be good, else, with a package deal including training, tel. support, advice, you could fair much better, like in the 1000s.
just a thought...
