Which is better, in terms of designing in and integration with Flash? I'm in an ongoing debate with some guys at work...
- jevad0
integration with flash?
flash = vector
FW and IR = not vector
- level20
FW can output vector to Flash.
- jevad0
why on earth would you want to?
why not use illustrator?

yeah i hate fireworks, but its better than imageready
- blackspade0
i use fireworks for pretty much every web job i do
love it
and yes it does do vector
usually get my vectors sorted in freehand then import into fireworks
but yea importing into flash you are better of exporting vectors from FreeHand or Illy

Macromedia has the worst interfaces i have ever dealt with, really cumbersome. its a miracle i can use flash effectively, but i cant stand the rest of their products. so to answer your questions, IM.

i wouldn;t touch FW with a 10ft barge pole to be honest.
Photoshop, sometime IR, and dreamweaver/notepad for me all the way

Fireworks has teh hott!

Firewords does do the best flash integration - gradients kept fully in tact when exported to SWF.
I've done lots of HTML and flash sites in fireworks (including my current personal website).
Occasionally I'll do a site in PS if I want to go for more of a photo-style design.
The only thing I like imageready for is GIF animations - I just don't like fireworks animated gif interface.

fireworks is top, just because you can get files so much smaller. i sometimes build apps for mobile phones and i can only use fireworks because it's the only thing that will get the file small enough to go onto a phone.

the good think about fireworks is that you can cut and paste png's into flash rather than saving and importing...
other than that, there isn't much in it

Best programs ever:
Illustrator
Photoshop/ImageReady
BBEdit
Flash
AfterEfects
Finalcut
protools
iTunes:D

fireworks is nice. you can do some tasks pretty easily without too much headache, but of course no need to spend dough on that one extra. I definitely don't like IR. The problem with IR is, it is not flexible as ps is. Like I do expect its shortcuts to work as I am in ps and besides it don't, it is like a trunk sometimes.
For optimization, I prefer IR because most of my images are from photoshop and they suck big time exporting to them to fireworks.

i find fireworks good for exporting images after photoshop for html - other than that it's useless in my opinion.
i can't see how it should ever be needed for flash? illustrator exports swf straight in!

Fireworks is 'teh dreamweaver' for retards,
- mirola0
isn't dreamweaver 'teh dreamweaver' for retards?
- Anarchitect0
no.
dreamweaver is the dreamweaver's 'teh dreamweaver' for retards.

with fireworks you can group related elements on the same layer for a more organized document.
you only need one application to create/edit/export.
files are much smaller.
plays well with flash.
can use both vector and bitmap elements in the same document.
obviously, i'm a fan of the software, but apparently i am possibly retarded. :)
- kodap0
I completely agree, blaw.
