The battery on my '99 Beetle just gave out. Of course, it's a TDI with 120K miles. Maybe I'm just lucky.

Stewart, you are nuts. That is a beautiful car.

I feel for you bro. It seems that every person i know that has a newer VW feels the same as you do. Its a shame they are handsome cars. Too bad they are overproduced to put them into the bellybutton class (everyone has one)

My friend and I bought new cars two weeks apart. He bought a new 2002 VW Golf for $23k CAD, and I bought a new 2002 Honda Civic for $19k CAD.
The VW has 60,000 KM on it and has been in the shop 8 times for unscheduled repairs. 3 of those times it had to be towed in.
My Civic has not been in the shop once outside of regular maintenance. 75,000 KM and going great.
I love VW cars... but I find that the ones sold here in Canada (manufactured in Mexico) are shite! I prefer my Canadian built Civic.
Just my two cents.

Lemon laws applicable?

Stewart, quit posting photoshopped pics of 6series Bimmers. Go find a real picture and then we'll talk. That second pic you posted has UNREAL wheel clearance. And those "little pipes in the back" are the exhaust pipes and they're a lot bigger than you'd think. Especially when they're exhaling for a 4.5liter V8. Mmmmm Double-VANOS!!!

eh...doesn't do anythingf for me...
saw a Ford GT on the road yesterday...beautiful.

I wouldn't mind breaking in an R32 though...or should I say breaking.

lemon law applies for my wife's 2003.
Not mine. Luckily the drive train warranty is 100,000 miles, but everytime i take it in for something covered under the warranty, they find something not covered that costs $600. Imagine that! I'm just so pissed at myself for not doing the research before i bought. Its a shame, I really like the way they look and drive. You really have to test one to understand.

Jetta and Beattle are manufactured in Mexico for the US market and are horrible quality. Jetta in US is actually Borra in Europe and the two are night and day in terms of reliability and quality.
The only VW you should buy in the US is Passat V6 or new Golf since they are being directly imported from Germany the same way Audi and Mercedes. I think lower end Golfs (GL etc) are also produced in Mexico as well (not sure about that one).
So the wisest thing: If you are buying a VW (Passat first then everything else)

I'd go for Renault personally. Volkswagens act cool but are really not much better than Opels (Vauxhalls). I'd rather have a French car.

stew, that car can't possibly move when the body is crushing the tires...
it's plain to see pal.

ouch! yeah I am leary about vdubs.
try subaru or toyota
I have owned toys for many years, but finally switched to subaru and I must say that since they found themselves with the Impreza... well you will have to drive one. The interiors are broing, but the awd is untouchable.
