yeh the fact we have a forigner running English football grates me somewhat.
I think we have the players to win a world cup / Euro, just not the beleif and the right football system

Everyone hates him but no one would turn down having him on their side.
Career is winding down now but even with a dodgy hip still looks better than most midfielders.
From what I can make out about the world cup he was put into a position where he couldn't back down, maybe he should of but that's something he'll have to live with.

I think he was totally justified walking out on the WC like he did, I read his book and you can tell it's not something he is proud of but it was something he felt he had to do.
I say good on him for making a stand, Mick McCarthy abused his trust, and he got what he deserved.

Basically before the World Cup Roy asked McCarthy to his house to discuss preparations as Roy wante to ensure everything would be right, and then when they got there and they werent, Roy flipped.
It was because Roy has a big problem trusting people, as you can imagine everyone wants something from you as a professional footballer. The fact that Roy trusted him and let him into his home, was a big thing for him, and then when McCarthy threw it back in his face it was too much to take!!
Apparently Roy Keane letting you into his home is a real big thing for him, and Mick took the piss!

he also had the arsehole about a lot of ways the irish fa were running the game.
For example he kicked up a stink that the players would fly long haul in economy while the heads of the FAI would fly first class!
He was used to a level of profesionalism that the FAI weren't I guess and believed (rightly or wrongly) that they were going to the World Cup to try and win it and not have a jolly.

It goes way back to the Jack Charlton days. He was once left in the stadium during the USA world cup, Roy had to stay and be examined by a doctor and the team left without him. Roy had no money and had to hitch back to the hotel...
Keane always hated McCarthy cause he always had his head up Jack Charltons ass. Keane went on the piss in the US with Steve Stauton and was late for the trip home holding up the bus. McCarthy told him off in front of the team and Jack Charlton

Also, Keane was pretty pissed off with the whole FAI (irish FA) he hated the way the suits travelled in 1st class while the team had to travel in economy. But the final nail in the coffin was McCarthy trying to make a spectical of Keane in a player/managent meeting in Sepang.
Its a great book, you should read it.
