my microsoft windows update found this. i'm currently running service pack 1. is anyone running 2? is it worth installing??

i'm being cautious with that. there are some known backwards compatibility issues with it and that worries me a bit.

i got it, didn't like it, and restored to a previous state. the firewall is a pain in the ass, also the virus scan, and pop-up blocker. all very annoying. even with it off, it was still barking at me.

I installed it weeks ago and I would recommend it. I have had no issues with any programs I use. My brother works in IT for a development company and he told me to do it because they tested it thoroughly. Plus it comes with a pretty decent firewall and pop up blocker.

i'm running it at work. some of the security settings are very annoying. pop-up blocker is nice though...

if you all jsut dropped using IE and started using a real browser like Firefox, you wouldn't be having a problem with pop-ups

I use firefox, so pop-ups are not a problem. I also have 3rd party firewall installed so I feel pretty secure.
Are there any other benefits? Will SP2 give me anything I don't already have?

i've noticed my man-tits getting bigger since installing sp2...

or.. um.. you know.. linux.

SP2 has been okay for me, except.... it is wreeking havoc with my Netcare wireless card. The SP2 has built in wireless "stuff" (excuse my expert IT lingo)... and if you try to oppose what Windows wants to do, it gets all cranky.
I had to upgrade the firmware on my router to get WinXP SP2 to recognize my card.
Grrrrrrrr....
Works fine now.... now that MS tracks me online. HA!

Netcare? I mean... Netgear. I suck.

I can't see a reason to upgrade from Windows 2000, really. There is nothing more but customizable skins in XP.
OK, it starts up a bit faster, that's a point.

No problems with SP2 here. I just like keeping all my stuff up-to-date - it gives me a sense of enormous well being ;)

thanks for all the feedback on #2. my conclusion is that it truly is "number two". i'm going to pass on it for now.
