a couple of days ago, tony danza was on howard stern. along with the obvious insights, like the starlots he's hooked up with, like working on taxi, seeing the young alyssa milano and feeling this need to father her (rather than perv his way into her trailer), and his early fighting career, which included instructions on how to knock someone out with one punch to the chin, danza talked about his friendship with the late rap star tupac shakur.
evidently, after hearing "dear mama", danza decided tupac was a kindred spirit and a beautiful artist (that part always amuses me), so he wrote to the rap star while he was in prison (for foced sodomy no less). after tupac was released, the two men met occasionally and discussed art, politics, and the biz.
i don't know why i feel compelled to mention this, but the juxtaposition is just so strange, tupac and tony danza, one a gangsta, the other a male housecleaner...

I've heard that before. Actually I think that it's on the Tupac Resurection movie, which is fantastic.

that's great

Yeah he was really cool on the Stern show. I think it's on E tonight also. I want to know the exact spot on the chin he was talking about too.

(sep 14 04, 11:34)I was curious about that too. If I had known back in high school that there was one direct spot where i could drop someone, I wouldn't have had to do the "Hey Look Over There!" point and sucker punch and then run like hell routine.

Man, I was confused by the first post. Forgot about Tupac and was sitting here going "When was Tona Danza in jail for sodomy?"
And I was honestly thinking it could have been true and that's why he wasn't around for a number of years. HAHA
:D

that's so ironic. my baby mama's hairstylist used to be the personal chef for the cousin of the actress who played mrs. roper on three's company. i have all these sexy pictures of her in this green moo-moo..
forget paris hilton, forget elisha cuthbert, forget jessica alba, it's all about mrs. roper.

jevad, i think tupac was charismatic--to a degree-- and was talented, but i agree with you...when you strip away all the glitz and glamour, you basically have this guy talking about the same old gangsta themes: get high, fuck b**ches, roll with guns
the ultimate irony is that this is a man who glamorized the gangsta lifetsyle but whose roots were far different: he went to art high growing up
defenders always point to the song he wrote about his mom being a crackhead as sign of his maturity and sensitivity--which cracks me up. you mean if i write a story about my mom, everything else that i have done problematically in my life and in my work would be ignored, and i'd be immunue from criticism?
with that said, i just think tony danza wanting to bond with him is hilarious--like puff daddy and bruce willis partying together...

So many good points. Tupac not a "gangsta", and I think chauvinistic more so than an a mysoginist (sp?) . He was a phenomenal rap artist, but hey, tha's all in the past now. The Tony Danza interview was great. I like when he talked about having testicular arthritis or something like that: "Owwwww! skeet skeet!"
