I haven't read all the replies, so I don't know if this has already been stated, but...
"hard-core leftists" aren't voting for Kerry (or are voting for him simply to out Bush).
But for the most part, leftists (not what passes for liberal) are not impressed with Democrats.
- mrdobolina0
Well, I doubt much really impresses them, really.
- adamfinger0
What does that mean?!?
- ********0
haha dobs!
- mrdobolina0
Who is their candidate?
- adamfinger0
Yes, I agree. The far-left is very divided and has very little organization. This is one of the big problems.
Most people who haven't bought into the anyone-but-Bush message is probably voting for either Cobb (Green) or Nader. Cobb is a better choice this year in my opinion, but both candidates will recieve VERY few votes overall.
- mrdobolina0
they should work on electing green congressmen first. A green president wouldnt get anything done without some backup in the house and senate.
- adamfinger0
Well, everyone that votes for a third-party ultimtely understands that they won't get elected. The point is usually to show that the dems/republicans have become essentially the same party with varying opinions on certain social issues (abortion, gay rights, etc). But a much larger issue is agreed upon by both--that an unquestioned free-market is good and anything that questions this is bad.

Are you serious?
Do you really think disenfranchised liberals are going to hurt people?Get real kiddo.

(aug 31 04, 18:24)Liberals good. Not hurt nobody.

wtf?
- mrdobolina0
If George Bush is re-elected I will no longer follow politics or vote for the rest of my life.

America is now made up of people who want instant gratification. We're CHILDREN that have access to fast food, movies on demand, drive through ATMs, one hour photos, instant credit and same day dry cleaning. People want an instant change and feel as if electing a NEW presisdent will cause that change.
Kerry said he wants to explore new energy sources...it's already being done...it's no new concept. And how is he going to make us energy-independent of the middle east? Use the oil domesticly? I think the Greepeace folks would like to have a chat with him first.
None of this will be instant. People need to see that
- adamfinger0
xaoscontrol--I'm not quite sure where you are going with your "instant gratification" remark.
This sort of language (that change is slow, etc) is often used by policy makers who would prefer to maintain the status-quo than to make any REAL change. As a result, we are left with only superficial results that are enough to placate an already media-induced ignorant society.
- xaoscontrol0
adam, I'm talking about changes to be made on a national level.
Where I'm going is that we're so spoild with the idea of instant gratification that people are going to expect changes ASAFP should Kerry be elected.
What happens when they don't? The 'elitist-conserva-nazi's' are going to say "where's the change?" and the 'liberal-commies' will be saying 'it's coming'. I use those terms in a light-hearted fashion, btw. I'm using kind of terminology that each side uses in it's views of each other.

can you gamble on the election?
can you bet on a canidate?
- Mimio0
It's really simple..if you don't like Bush's policies you vote to fire him. No other implications are necessary. This isn't some reflection of American societal woes. The real tragedy is that 45% of the population doesn't have a vested interest in shaping their government for the better.
- adamfinger0
I get it. Yes, we are accustomed to instant gratification, but a lot of change could be made if it weren't for an elite's desire to maintain the status-quo. This elite is comprised of both democrats and republicans.
- xaoscontrol0
that;s why they're called conservative.
Mimio...great point about peoples interest in voting. We may not be able to meet on the same line as far as some issues are concerned, but I agree with you on this one. It's a shame. I used to love how MTV promoed the 'choose or loose' thing but I think that the people who really should be voting are watching MTV less and less. Hell, I hardly watch tv anymore....Penn & Teller: BULLSHIT is what I watch now. :)
